This fund was established by Anna Martinez Williams and her family, including her father, E.J. Martinez, and her brothers, Dave and Vince Martinez, to honor the legacy of Lala, a lifetime educator. Lala taught bilingual education for over thirty years, and she worked primarily with children whose families struggled economically. She was a fierce advocate for students and their families, and she taught thousands of children how to read. She was an outstanding educator and mentor; Lala believed that higher education was her students’ “ticket out of poverty,” and she was relentless in her quest to provide access to high-quality education to all students.
The Martinez family hopes to continue Lala’s legacy by offering a scholarship each year to Park City High School students who may otherwise not have the financial means to pursue post-secondary education. Students wishing to apply for this scholarship should contact the Park City High School scholarship office.
Recipients of this scholarship include:
All of these students are first-generation college students, and all are continuing with their college careers.
