Bringing Food Rescue to Summit County

Waste Less Solutions (WLS) was started in Salt Lake City in 2018 and has “rescued” 1,276 tons and $4.6 million worth of food since its inception. When WLS says rescued, they mean taking surplus, edible food from businesses and events, and connecting it with nonprofits that are working to feed people. This simple solution helps those who are food insecure while also reducing waste and food scraps from entering our landfills.

Back in July of 2024, Park City Community Foundation’s Climate Fund made a grant to WLS to expand their footprint in Summit County. The team is ready to roll and is looking for businesses and organizations to work with.

Want to get involved? Become a food donor, a partner organization, or sign up to be a future volunteer/rescuer.

Become a Food Donor

  • This is a good fit if your company often has excess high-quality food that may otherwise go to waste, such as restaurants, catering businesses, hotels, event venues, board meetings, farmers, farmers markets and backyard gardens, etc.
  • Along with providing direct support and helping to reduce waste locally for FREE, you can also receive tax benefits, and protection from liability.
  • Get started: Reach out to WLS and they will set you up with a Food rescue account that will ensure smooth food rescue pickups with volunteers.

Join as a Partner Organization

  • If you are with a nonprofit organization that serves people experiencing food insecurity, WLS would love to partner with you.
  • After becoming a partner, you will be notified of the schedule of deliveries of surplus food to your organization.

Sign Up to be a Future Volunteer/Rescuer

  • Using the Food Rescue app, you can sign up to transport food from donors to nonprofit organizations. Think of it as being an Uber driver for recused food! It may be a few months before volunteers are needed in Summit County but sign up to be alerted!
