Park City, Utah – November, 21, 2024 – In a landmark effort to address mental and behavioral health challenges, the Katz Amsterdam Charitable Trust announced more than $2.83 million in grants to mountain resort communities across the West. These grants will support community-driven initiatives that enhance access to mental health services, reduce stigma, and provide culturally responsive care.
Since 2016, Katz Amsterdam has contributed over $27 million to mountain communities, with $19 million focused specifically on mental and behavioral health initiatives. This year’s grants target 10 communities, supporting local organizations in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, California, Nevada, Idaho, and Vermont. These funds will bolster critical programs including peer support training, substance use recovery, youth mental health programming, and bilingual services for underserved populations.
Katz Amsterdam selected Park City Community Foundation to help facilitate its mental health grants into Summit County, Utah. They have been working closely with Park City Community Foundation for over six years. Locally, Park City Community Foundation is directing $500,000 to strengthen mental health and substance use recovery resources in Summit County. This funding will support a wide range of sub-grantees, including Latino Behavioral Health Services, Jewish Family Services, People’s Health Clinic, Peace House, Christian Center of Park City, Holy Cross Ministries, Live Like Sam, Summit County Clubhouse, and the Summit County Recovery Foundation. Together, these organizations are working to improve access to treatment, expand bilingual support, and address substance use recovery in the local community.
Other communities receiving grants include Aspen, Crested Butte, Eagle County, Summit County, Telluride, and Sun Valley. In Jackson, Wyoming, funding will support Latina Empowerment Circles and youth mental health programming. In Tahoe/Truckee, California/Nevada, grants will enhance peer services and substance use recovery programs in Spanish for youth and adults. The Vermont Community Foundation also received funding to support general mental and behavioral health efforts statewide.
“These grants are an investment in the well-being of mountain communities and reflect the power of local organizations to create meaningful change,” said Beth Ganz, executive director of the Katz Amsterdam Foundation. “We are particularly inspired by the culturally responsive services that are meeting the needs of communities of color and fostering equity in mental health care.”
In Park City, as well as in other communities, these grants will play a vital role in expanding access to care, reducing stigma, and addressing the unique mental health challenges faced by mountain communities. By empowering local organizations, the Katz Amsterdam Charitable Trust is ensuring that each community can build a healthier, more supportive environment for its residents.
“These grants represent a critical investment in the health and well-being of our community,” said Diego Zegarra, Vice President of Equity and Inclusion at the Park City Community Foundation. “By supporting local organizations that provide culturally responsive care and expanding access to mental health resources, we are creating a stronger, more inclusive Summit County. This funding will make a meaningful difference for individuals and families who have historically faced barriers to care.”
