Park City Community Foundation is proud to announce the approval of the first grant from its Community Belonging Fund, which was established in January. A unanimous decision by the grants committee has awarded $50,000 to Wasatch Immigration Project (WIP) to expand critical immigration legal services in the Wasatch Back.
WIP, a nonprofit law firm founded in 2023, provides pro bono and low bono legal services to members of the community who are facing the complex immigration system without the ability to pay for private legal representation. The demand for their services has surged, with a growing waitlist of over 100 individuals seeking legal consultations. This grant will support the hiring of additional staff attorneys, significantly increasing WIP’s capacity to serve local immigrant families in need.
“We are thrilled to support Wasatch Immigration Project in its mission to provide high-quality legal representation to our immigrant neighbors,” said Diego Zegarra, VP of Equity & Impact at Park City Community Foundation. “Ensuring access to justice is a key component of fostering a truly inclusive and welcoming community.”
The Community Belonging Fund was created to support initiatives that strengthen the social fabric of Summit County by uplifting immigrant communities and ensuring equitable access to resources. Areas of support that the fund is addressing include legal assistance, community education about immigrant rights, housing stability, and access to mental and physical health services.
“This grant from Park City Community Foundation is a game-changer,” said Maggie AbuHaidar, Executive Director of WIP. “It allows us to bring on more legal staff at a time when immigration policies are shifting rapidly, and families are in urgent need of representation.”
