Mazana Boerboom (they/them) is returning to their roots as they join the Park City Community Foundation team as a Marketing & Communications Specialist. Mazana was raised in Park City and the surrounding areas through the majority of their adolescent years. Even after moving to the Salt Lake area as a teenager they kept roots in Park City by returning often to volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters and later the National Ability Center. They moved to Missoula, Montana to study journalism at the University of Montana after finishing high school in 2018.
During their years in Montana, Mazana focused on community journalism as an intern reporter for the Missoulian Newspaper, and in various roles for the Montana Kaimin, UM’s student-run newspaper. In this time they developed a strong passion for various social equity issues, with a strong emphasis on LGBTQ rights and mental health awareness. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 2022, Mazana returned to Utah to be close to family again, and spent some time working in sales and marketing for the hospitality industry, before finding their way to the Park City Community Foundation in 2024.
Mazana firmly believes individuals sharing unique experiences and passions is what connects people and drives positive change and growth within our communities. This is what drove them to studying the art of storytelling through the written word, and ultimately what aligned them with the values of the Community Foundation. When they’re not hard at work, Mazana enjoys reading, playing table-top roleplaying games with their friends, traveling, or recreating in Utah’s magnificent outdoors.
