Members of the Women’s Giving Fund don’t just donate their money; they donate their time! Women’s Giving Fund created the Power Lunch Program at Ecker Hill Middle School to introduce 6th and 7th grade girls to a variety of career options while promoting the self-esteem and confidence needed to pursue classes that can lead to STEM careers. The lunches average over 150 participants, culminating in a Park City Mountain adventure with one-on-one mentoring.
In January, Park City Community Foundation hosted a Girls Power Lunch on Wednesday, January 31st at Ecker Hill Middle School. Kristal Bowman-Carter spoke to the children about the importance of being a mentor to their peer’s as well as having a good mentor. Kristal inspired the girls to think about what is truly important to them and to then find the right mentors.
Here are some of the quotes from the young women about their Power Lunch experience:
“I love coming here. Now I am going to look for a mentor”
“Mentors are people who help you achieve your goals. This talk was very interesting!”
“She is a very nice woman. She made me feel like I want to be someone’s mentor. Thank you.”
“Thank you that was amazing! I really want a mentor now! Power Lunch is super cool. Please keep doing it! I learned I can be a mentor”
Kristal Bowman-Carter is a California and Utah attorney. Kristal received her undergraduate degree in French with a minor in Political Science from California State University and afterwards, her Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School. Kristal has created her own business here in Park City called Bowman-Carter Law, PC. She has become a successful and empowering woman and continues to inspire people of all ages throughout our community.
The mentoring programs have been made possible by EpicPromise grants from Vail Resorts, which enable Women’s Giving Fund to match its members with existing mentoring opportunities and to create new mentoring programs for middle school girls.
