Your Year-End Game Plan for Tax-Smart Giving & Community Impact

The year is winding down. Are your giving plans winding up?! Whether you want to support Park City Community Foundation or other nonprofits that matter most to you, there are smart, strategic ways to maximize your impact.

Why Year-End Gifts Matter
Making a tax-savvy gift—whether cash, appreciated stock, IRA distributions, or DAF grants—allows you to:

  • Reduce your taxable income
  • Avoid capital gains taxes
  • Claim a higher tax deduction
  • Increase the impact of your charitable dollars by supporting critical programs and meeting the rising needs of local nonprofits and families

Consider these strategies to make gifts that align with your financial goals while making meaningful investments in the well-being of everyone who calls our mountain town home.

Make a Year-End Cash Gift:
A straightforward cash contribution helps fuel the missions of your cherished organizations and support our greater Park City and Summit County communities—and beyond.

Evaluate Your Investments:
If your portfolio has grown this year, donating appreciated securities—such as stocks or mutual funds—can eliminate capital gains taxes and unlock a full fair-market-value deduction.

Satisfy Your Required Minimum Distributions (RMD):
If you’re 70½ or older and haven’t taken your 2025 RMD, consider directing gifts as Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD). This tax-smart strategy can reduce your taxable income.

Diversify Your Retirement Income with a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA)
A CGA provides fixed income for life while supporting charitable organizations. Qualifying IRA owners may also be able to fund a CGA using “Legacy IRA” provisions for added tax advantages.

Bunch Gifts for Maximum Deduction
By combining two or more years of charitable donations into a single tax year, you may exceed the standard deduction threshold and claim a larger deduction. Also consider making these bunched gifts into a Donor-Advised Fund to receive your deductions in the current year and continue making grants over time.

Use Your Donor Advised Fund (DAF)—or Open One with Us
If you have a DAF, consider recommending a year-end grant to Park City Community Foundation and/or other local nonprofits. If you don’t yet have a DAF, opening one with us is an excellent way to meet your financial goals, organize your charitable giving, and maximize your long-term philanthropic impact in our community.

Thank you for your generosity, partnership, and belief in what our community can accomplish when we come together.

Please reach out to Alexis Brown, VP of Development, at alexis@parkcitycf.org with any questions. To ensure your gift is processed before year-end, please complete your contributions by December 10.
