Park City School District (PCSD), Park City Community Foundation, Spoil to Soil, and Momentum Recycling have come together with various schools, businesses, and nonprofits to offer a total of 15 bins around the greater Park City area to collect pumpkins for the community. The locations include:
November 1 – November 30:
October 29 – November 10:
There will also be a Pumpkin Smash event at Park City MARC on November 2 from 1-4pm. Pumpkin remains from that event will also be composted.
Last year, our community successfully diverted 30,000 pounds of pumpkins from entering the landfill. This effort saved the county $4,423 in landfill space costs and prevented over 4,000 pounds of methane emissions from being released into the atmosphere—equivalent to a standard car driving around the equator more than four times.
Food waste, a significant contributor to the climate crisis, makes up as much as 60% of the material in our local landfill. Once there, this valuable resource is wasted forever, occupying costly landfill space. By separating food waste, we not only save money but also protect our climate
Through its newly-launched Zero Food Waste initiative, Park City Community Foundation has set an ambitious community-wide goal to eliminate and divert all food waste from Summit County’s landfill by 2030. Partnering with Momentum Recycling, the Community Foundation launched a new curbside food waste collection to households in 84098 and 84060. The first 1,000 homes to sign up receive the starter kit and first month free thanks to Park City Mountain, supported through Vail Resorts EpicPromise. Sign up here: parkcitycf.org/curbsidecollection
