Thank you Summit County for recognizing that child care is a vital need in our community, worthy of public investment. As part of the development of the FJ Gillmor Subdivision, the County plans to build out approximately 6730 square feet of shelled child-care space for development by a future lessee, an investment of approximately $1.77 million.
A smaller child care space was in the original programming set forth by the architects in 2017, but was removed during the prior bond process in 2021. County staff explained that this larger space is necessary since child care is an employee benefit that helps attract and keep employees.
The final and formal approval will be through the standard budget process. If approved, construction would likely begin next Spring or Summer.
