The Trisha J. Worthington Community Service Award is given annually by Park City Community Foundation to an individual who has been generous with their time and talent to charitable and community endeavors.
In 2023, the award honors Syd Reed, who has given back throughout her long tenure in Park City to make it a strong and vibrant community. It was presented to her at Park City Community Foundation’s annual Community Fund Grants Celebration by one of the organization’s original founders, Myles Rademan.
Since the 1970s, Syd has donated an incredible amount of time and effort to the community of Park City. Among many impactful roles, she served on the Board of the Park City Museum, was instrumental in their capital campaign, and helped secure their new Executive Director. She served on the Board of Park City Community Foundation, was a founding member of its Women’s Giving Fund, served on a number of Community Foundation committees, and is a big advocate for Live PC Give PC. She’s currently a very active Board Member of Park City Senior Center.
Syd is considered one of the founding leaders, along with her late husband, in making Park City the vibrant town it is today. She was a teacher educating our kids, she had a show on KPCW, raised an amazing family, and even wrote a legendary cookbook. She has been a generous donor to many nonprofits in our town and has inspired others to be active volunteers and advocates for causes like herself.
Karen Schieble, who nominated her, said, “Syd Reed is the personification of the best of the past, present, and future of what Park City has been and can be. She has lived her life in this community, has given back to make it a better place, and intends to continue to spend her senior years actively living in and loving Park City.”
As the founding Executive Director of Park City Community Foundation, Trisha J. Worthington inspired others with the spirit of service and philanthropy. She brought life to the idea of a community foundation in greater Park City – to have an organization that enhances philanthropy in all aspects of our community. We are proud to acknowledge Syd Reed as this year’s award recipient, who embodies what it means to be a community member who gives back.
Thank you, Syd, for always working to make Park City better and for embracing the great changes that this town has seen in a positive way!
