Park City School Board Approves Further Study Of Hybrid Model For Early Learning

The Park City School Board approved grade alignment changes at its meeting on December 17, 2019. In addition to grouping grades 6-8 together and 9-12 together, the Board directed the district to create architectural plans and estimated costs to increase 3 and 4-year old pre-school offerings at all four of the current elementary schools. Two of these additions will be larger additions that will allow space for wrap-around services. The Board would like to have one larger early-learning center in zip code 84060 (at McPolin Elementary) and one larger early-learning center in zip code 84098 (likely at either Trailside Elementary or Jeremy Ranch Elementary). The Board authorized the district to enter into negotiations with a bond architect to prepare preliminary designs and costs estimates to build out the spaces to host additional pre-school and wrap-around services, as well as other facility changes required for the grade realignment.

During an interview with KPCW on December 18, 2019, Superintendent Dr. Gildea explained that there is always a waitlist for the currently available pre-school slots and stressed the great return on investment in early learning. More details are available in Park City School District’s Facilities Master Plan.
