Over 1,000 Tons Diverted: A Milestone for the Zero Food Waste Initiative
When Park City Community Foundation launched the Zero Food Waste initiative in June 2024, the goal was simple but ambitious: eliminate and divert all food waste from the Summit County landfill by 2030. Less than two years later, that goal has produced a milestone worth celebrating. The initiative has now diverted over 1,000 tons of food waste from Summit County’s local landfill, and the momentum is only growing.
To put that number into perspective, 1,000 tons is equivalent to 71 fully loaded dump trucks worth of food waste that never made it to the landfill. That is not just a statistic; it is a tangible, visible measure of what community-driven solutions can accomplish when the right people get behind them. From local restaurants and resorts to everyday residents signing up for Curbside Collection, every contribution has added up to something much bigger than any single effort.
None of this happens without the partners and supporters who show up consistently and believe in the work. Your commitment is what turns an idea into lasting, measurable change, and there is still so much more to accomplish together.
