21 Local Organizations to Receive Funding for Youth Recreation Programs

Park City, UT – April 19, 2022 – Park City Community Foundation is excited to announce the  2022 Solomon Fund grantees. In its sixth year of grant-giving, over $175,000 in grants will go to 21 local organizations intentionally working to increase Latinx participation in their sports and recreation programs. The recreation programs appeal to various interests, including basketball, soccer, skiing, snowboarding, boxing, gymnastics, martial arts, dance, theatre, and visual art classes, making it possible to offer scholarships to students who would not otherwise be able to afford the full cost of these programs. Since Solomon Fund’s inception, over $800,000 in grants have been awarded to recreational programs that align with its mission.

“The goal of the Solomon Fund is to create a more inclusive, integrated, and complete community by reaching twenty percent Latinx participation in recreation programs to reflect the diverse makeup of our town,” said Sarah MacCarthy, Community Impact Director at Park City Community Foundation. “The program addresses several barriers that currently hinder Latinx participation, including communication and outreach, scholarships, and gear.”

Solomon Fund was launched in 2016 at Park City Community Foundation to facilitate access to sports and recreation opportunities for Latinx children in our community. Since then, Park City Community Foundation staff have built a strong network of trusted partner organizations, including Youth Sports Alliance, Park City Soccer, and Ballet West Park CityUtah Olympic Legacy Foundation, among many others.

Youth Sports Alliance had 244 Latinx participants during the 2020/21 school year, representing 22% of their overall participants, and the organization credits funding and support from Solomon Fund for their success. Park City Soccer Club is another grantee working to fully engage Latinx children and their families with an introduction to soccer, team integration, scholarships, logistical support, and a bi-lingual website.

Multiple grantees have been Solomon Fund partners since the initiative’s inception. A new data collection tool has since gathered insightful information on the partners’ efforts, participation, and alignment toward Solomon Fund goals. View the Solomon Fund 2021 Impact Report >>

In addition to managing the Solomon Fund grants process, Park City Community Foundation staff support partners and community members by organizing events, providing translation services for partner marketing materials, and guiding families to opportunities throughout the year. Community Foundation staff host two annual registration events, where hundreds of families sign up for programs and summer camps.
