Pumpkin Composting is Back for 2026!
Park City Community Foundation, Park City School District (PCSD), Summit County, Park City Chamber, and Momentum Recycling are partnering once again to collect fall pumpkins so they don’t end up in the Summit County landfill.
From October 31 to November 13, students, families, and community members are invited to drop pumpkins at the following locations:
- Jeremy Ranch Elementary School
- Parley’s Park Elementary School
- Trailside Elementary School
- McPolin Elementary School
- Ecker Hill Middle School
- Park City High School
- Park City Day School
- Little Miners Montessori School
- Park City Visitor Information Center
- Recycle Utah
- Summit County Library – Kamas Valley Branch
Park City MARC is hosting its Pumpkin Smash again on Saturday, November 7, from 12 to 2 p.m., and any pumpkins left over will be composted.
Last fall, as a community, we composted 20,720 pounds of pumpkins, bringing the total to nearly 90,000 pounds since 2023.
Pumpkin composting is funded through Park City Community Foundation’s Zero Food Waste initiative, which aims to keep food waste out of our local landfill. With food waste taking up nearly half of the space in the Summit County landfill, every pound composted saves money, cuts methane emissions, and brings the Zero Food Waste initiative closer to its goal of keeping all food waste out of Summit County’s landfill by 2030.
Local businesses can be part of the solution too. Through the Zero Food Waste Business Incentive, offered by Park City Community Foundation with support from Summit County, restaurants, caterers, and other food-related businesses in Park City and Summit County can receive up to nine months of free food waste pickup through Momentum Recycling. The program covers the startup fee, collection bins, and on-site staff training, a value of up to $3,000. Spots are limited.
