What We’re Hearing from Nonprofits: Smart Strategies for Live PC Give PC

Education & Trainings, For Nonprofits, Live PC Give PC

Live PC Give PC is November 6, and nonprofits across our community are already planning outreach and building momentum. At our recent Nonprofit Roundtable, organizations shared what has worked for them in past years. Three themes rose to the top:

  • Start early. Donors who hear from you before the day are more likely to give.
  • Make it easy. The simpler the ask, the more people will help.
  • Value every gift. Small donations can grow into lasting relationships.

    Start early and build energy

The most common advice: start earlier than you think you need to. Many donors intend to give, but if they only hear from you on the day itself, it’s easy to miss the moment. Organizations that create a few touchpoints beforehand see stronger results and less stress.

Gatherings ahead of the day don’t need to be big. Think happy hours, coffee meetups, wellness events, or casual board get togethers. They’re a chance to explain how the platform works, share your goals, and help supporters feel connected.

Make board and volunteer outreach easy

Board members and volunteers are more likely to help when the task feels simple. As one participant put it, the goal is to make outreach “very straightforward and very easy.”

Write the message for them. Prepare ready-to-send texts and emails they can copy and forward, plus a quick reminder on the day.

Host a call or text night. Bring supporters together with scripts and a short list of past donors. Once people start, they often reach out to their own networks too.

Be specific. Instead of asking them to “reach out to people,” hand board members 10 donors from last year and language to use.

Quick reminder: Nonprofits cannot offer goods or services in exchange for donations.

Secure matching gifts ahead of time

If one tactic stood out, it was lining up matches before the day. Several nonprofits aim to raise about 50% of their goal in matching grants in advance, which takes pressure off and frees everyone to focus on participation and stewardship.

Start with last year’s donors, especially those who gave at mid-level or higher amounts.

Treat it as an upgrade. Someone who gave $250 last year may be glad to offer a $500 match.

Know that donors like being asked. A match gives them visibility on your page and a chance to lead.

Think small and local. Even a $250 match creates urgency. If you already partner with a local business, invite them to serve as a matching donor. It’s great visibility for them and a natural way to deepen the relationship.

Bonus: Many visitors browsing the Live PC Give PC site filter for organizations with matching dollars first.

      Don’t underestimate the $5 donor

A $5 donor may be a first-time supporter just getting to know you, and that first gift opens the door to a longer relationship. On the day, small gifts also help you climb the leaderboard, qualify for prizes, and build momentum that keeps your team energized.

The message that resonates most: everyone can be a donor.

Tell your story in a way that feels real

Supporters want to hear from real people about why the work matters and what their gift makes possible.

Keep it simple. Short videos of staff speaking to the camera often outperform polished graphics.

Connect it to your mission. Build your story around a current program, then carry that same theme from your Live PC Give PC page to your social posts and your presence on the street.

Give good posts a boost. Even $5 or $10 behind a social media post can extend your reach.

          Join the celebration

Live PC Give PC isn’t just a fundraising day; it’s a communitywide celebration. The Community Foundation is hosting events, and organizations across the community are hosting their own, so there’s something happening all the time.

Hosting a public event? Contact the Community Foundation to have it listed on the official Live PC Give PC events page.

          Reach new audiences

Many newer and part-time residents still don’t fully understand what Live PC Give PC is. That’s an opportunity. Use your outreach to explain how the day works, invite new people in, and remind them that every gift counts.

Use the tools that already exist
