Park City, UT – April 6, 2021 – Park City Community Foundation is thrilled to announce its 2021 Solomon Fund grantees. A total of $148,850 in grants will go to 19 local organizations intentionally working to increase Latino/a/x participation in sports and recreation programs. The grantee programs represent a diverse range of interests, including basketball, soccer, skiing, snowboarding, boxing, gymnastics, martial arts, dance, theatre, and visual art classes. The grants, made possible by generous Solomon Fund donors, provide scholarships to students who would not otherwise be able to afford the full cost of these programs.
“The goal of the Solomon Fund is to create a more inclusive, integrated, and complete community by reaching 20% Latino/a/x participation in recreation programs to reflect the diverse makeup of our town,” said Sarah MacCarthy, Community Impact Manager at Park City Community Foundation. “The program addresses several barriers that currently hinder Latinx participation, including communication and outreach, transportation, scholarships, and gear.”
Five years ago, Solomon Fund launched at Park City Community Foundation to facilitate access to sports and recreation opportunities for Latino/a/x children in the community. Since then, Park City Community Foundation staff have built a strong network of trusted partner organizations, including Youth Sports Alliance, Park City Soccer, Ballet West Park City, among many others.
Multiple grantees have been Solomon Fund partners since the initiative’s inception. Our new data collection tool has since gathered insightful information on the partner efforts, participation, and alignment toward Solomon Fund goals. View the Solomon Fund Data >>.
In addition to managing the Solomon Fund Grants process, Park City Community Foundation staff provide support for our partners and community by organizing family sign-up events, providing translation services for partner marketing materials, and guiding families through the opportunities throughout the year.
