October 15, 2025, Park City, UT – Park City Community Foundation and Recycle Utah have announced that they have launched community food waste bins at Recycle Utah’s facility as part of the Community Foundation’s Zero Food Waste initiative. Starting October 13, 2025, all are welcome to bring their food waste items to Recycle Utah during business hours to drop food scraps at no cost. All food waste items are accepted and will be picked up regularly by Momentum Recycling.
“Community bins are something we have been considering since we first launched the Zero Food Waste initiative,” said Andy Hecht, Park City Community Foundation’s Climate Fund Manager. “It’s a great way to introduce folks to food waste collection, and we appreciate the partnership with Recycle Utah to offer this service to our community members.”
Residents can bring food scraps in a compostable bag or receptacle of their choice; no plastic bags are allowed. Recycle Utah will also have kitchen caddies and compostable bags for purchase available in their store. All food waste is accepted, including meat, small bones, dairy, processed food, and items such as avocado seeds and skins. No yard waste or plastic is allowed. See the full list of items that can go in the bin here.
“We are grateful for the Community Foundation’s support,” said Troy Holding, Operations Director at Recycle Utah. “This work allows us to divert even more waste and reduce emissions from the landfill, and work towards our community’s Zero Food Waste goal.”
Alongside the community bins at Recycle Utah, the Community Foundation is also funding the return of a community food waste bin at Jeremy Ranch Elementary School (JRES), which is available for JRES families and staff to use. Students across Park City School District already compost during lunchtime at school, but this offers an easy way for parents and students to participate outside of school hours.
