Why Local Knowledge Matters

The Advantage of Partnering with a Community Foundation

When it comes to giving back, how do you ensure your generosity creates a lasting, meaningful impact?

At Park City Community Foundation, we’ve spent years working at the intersection of philanthropy and community need in the greater Park City and Summit County area. One thing we know with certainty: local knowledge is irreplaceable.

Park City is many things at once. It’s a world-class resort destination and a tight-knit community of longtime locals and new arrivals. It’s a rapidly growing region grappling with affordability, workforce housing, and access to services, a place where a kid might ski in the morning through a local nonprofit program and go home to a family that struggles to pay rent by the end of the month.

That complexity doesn’t always show up in national giving reports. It shows up in relationships with nonprofit leaders on the ground and in years of watching what does and doesn’t work in our town. Our team and partners live here, raise families here, and care about this community’s future the same way you do.

When donors partner with the Community Foundation, they’re tapping into a network of insights that takes years to build. We know which organizations are delivering the greatest impact per dollar, where gaps in services exist, and how overlapping community compounds one another. This kind of understanding transforms generosity from reactive to strategic.

We also convene nonprofits, donors, and civic leaders to collectively address our area’s greatest challenges, sparking collaboration and unlocking resources that no single organization or sector could mobilize alone.

The Community Foundation has earned the trust of this community by showing up consistently and putting community needs first. For donors, that trust is an asset. When you give through us — either with a direct gift or hosting a Donor-Advised Fund with us — your investment lands with intention, as part of an ongoing conversation about what our community needs and where it’s headed.

Ultimately, the best solutions to local problems are built by people who understand them from the inside. At Park City Community Foundation, local knowledge isn’t a feature. It’s our reason for being here and working with our donors, partners, and local leaders.
